: '<' and '>' signs aren't changed.  I'm sure there are some other 
: omissions.  Perhaps someone who with more expertise in LaTeX and
: GNU C coding conventions might want to submit a patch.  It seems like
: this would be hand to partially automate the process of converting 
: straight text into TeX and/or LaTeX.

'<' should be encoded as $<$ , '>' as $>$, and '^' as \textasciicircum .
