Not without knowing more about what you're trying to do :-) Can you send
me a testcase or point me to some code that triggers this? I use ar daily
and haven't ran into this problem....then again, it looks like it's trying
to write big-endian bits on a little-endian arch, so I can't tell what's
going on with it or debugging it without some way to reproduce it.

Nesting archives is evil and doesn't work (there's two other bugs that
detail those conversations), so adding a .a to a new archive is just
asking for trouble and causes quite a few problems in the end (it really
doesn't work well at all and definitely won't strip or objcopy).

What is the app, if I may ask? I'm always interested when I see the word
"kernel" :-P Seriously, though, I'd like to get a look at those object
files and that libcap2app.a archive. Oh, also, do you have
binutils-multiarch installed by any chance? I have to ask since I'm
currently tracking down another problem in that package and wouldn't be
surprised if I found more.

No prob...I keep hoping that someone will fix the bug script and add
reply-to to it, but I suppose I'll be waiting forever before it's done :-P
Maybe I'll find some time next week to do that.
