The following docbook chapter, when run through
sgmltools -b ps
then generates a postscript file that returns an error when processed
with gs (e.g. viewed with gv or run through ps2pdf).
Tickle the GIF bug in ps output
Any GIF will do.
The error it generates is this:

I'm not sure where this happens in the chain - if it's sgmltools-2,

It probably can only deal with EPS and you're feeding it a gif.

I suggest you get down and work on the pure jade/docbook-stylesheets
level. I think maybe PNG is supported. What is a pain in the butt is
that different output formats can only deal with certain(different)
image formats.

Hi.
Recently I have uploaded sgmltools-lite, which replaces sgmltools-2.
And now I checked old bug reports on sgmltools-2 to fix/close them.

I don't think this is a bug in sgmltools(v2) or sgmltools-lite.
I think jadetex needs PS file to convert DocBook into PS, and
sgmltools-2 (or sgmltools-lite) just calls jadetex for the conversion.
So, if a user want to convert DocBook source into PS file, then
the included graphics need to be prepared in PS format, I think.
In another word, "on-the-fly-graphic-format-conversion"
has not been implemented in sgmltools-2/sgmltools-lite.
I'll change the severity of this report into wishlist, and will
forward to the upstream.
Regards.
