I don't have music: /dev/dsp busy... But if I ask xmms, it plays music, so
esound works well (and I saw [ldd] that falconseye should be able to use
it)... And if I kill esound, it doesn't seem to help.
Feel free to ask if you want more information.

I believe that it's not only music that's lacking, am I correct? Isn't the

Hello,
sound is working for me, if I change the option "linux_midi_player" in
/etc/falconseye/jtp_opts.txt to:
linux_midi_player=/usr/bin/timidity -idqq -Oe %s
and if "esd" is running. But there is still a error-message. If I type
"falconseye" in a xterm, i get:
bernd@Emanuel:~$ falconseye
......................bad md5 secret-cookie obtained from Arts::TmpGlobalComm - replacing it
......................
But music and sound effects are working.
It seems to me, that it makes a different to timidity if it is startet
from the command line or from falconseye. If the "esd" ist not running, the
following commands on the command line still produces music:
bernd@Emanuel:~$ killall esd
bernd@Emanuel:~$ ps aux | grep esd
bernd 23540 0.0 0.5 1736 692 pts/1 S 01:21 0:00 grep esd
bernd@Emanuel:~$ timidity -idqq -Oe /usr/share/games/falconseye/sound/nethack.mid

MIDI file: /usr/share/games/falconseye/sound/nethack.mid
Format: 1 Tracks: 21 Divisions: 120

But, if I start "falconseye", with the configuration mentioned above, I get:

Couldn't open Enlightened sound daemon (`e')
With "linux_midi_player=/usr/bin/timidity -idqq -Od %s" in jtp_opts.txt I

I'm wondering if you both still experience the bugs you reported:
#139599: fails to reap large numbers of zombie child processes
and:
#103434: No music
I patched falconseye recently (debian revision 6) that _might_ have
fixed these bugs.
Thanks.

I'm wondering if you both still experience the bugs you reported:
#139599: fails to reap large numbers of zombie child processes
and:
#103434: No music
I patched falconseye recently (debian revision 6) that _might_ have
fixed these bugs.
Thanks.

I'm looking around in the code at the moment, and (at least on my
system), the audio subsystem of SDL seems to lock the soundcard, so no
program can use it anymore. That includes not only the external players
(midi and mp3), but also falconseye itself! Which means all of them get
a "device or resource busy", and no sound is produced at all.
Disabling effects will avoid initializing the sound subsystem, so that
makes music work (if timidity is installed properly).
This may be related to which ALSA module you use exactly. However, on
my system other programs such as xmms can happily play through each
other, so it shouldn't be limiting.

Version: 1.9.2-4
I don't have music: /dev/dsp busy... But if I ask xmms, it plays music, so
esound works well (and I saw [ldd] that falconseye should be able to use
it)... And if I kill esound, it doesn't seem to help.
Feel free to ask if you want more information.

Subject: falconseye has been removed from Debian, closing #103434
Version: 1.9.3-16+rm
The falconseye package has been removed from Debian testing, unstable and
experimental, so I am now closing the bugs that were still opened
against it.
For more information about this package's removal, read
http://bugs.debian.org/320075 . That bug might give the reasons why
this package was removed, and suggestions of possible replacements.
Don't hesitate to reply to this mail if you have any question.
Thank you for your contribution to Debian.
