I would like to be able to specify the length of the tune on the
sidplay command line. For example,
$ sidplay --playtime=25:45.712 Beben_Wally/Tetris.sid
would play for 25 minutes and 45.712 seconds, and then exit.
This would make it much easier to write a playlist as a shell
script. I use "sleep" and "kill" nowadays but that gives only
one-second resolution and doesn't take the sidplay startup time
in account.
The short form of this option could be -t, for consistency with
sid2wav.
(Oh, sidplay doesn't have any long options except --help? So add
them! :-)

One more detail... the time should be counted in samples played,
not real time. So --playtime=25:45.712 -f44100 should compute
(25*60+45.712)*44100 = about 68165899 samples, and play that many
regardless of how long it takes in real time. This makes the
tune end at the right point, even if sidplay doesn't get enough
CPU time and there are breaks in the output.

I would like to be able to specify the length of the tune on the
sidplay command line. For example,
$ sidplay --playtime=25:45.712 Beben_Wally/Tetris.sid
would play for 25 minutes and 45.712 seconds, and then exit.
So add
them! :-)

The "duration" patch is good, but I want more.
1) a duration of 0 should mean "don't play", not "play forever"
2) better than 1s accuracy (I have measured some tunes exactly
from WAV files and want to use those values)

The "duration" patch is good, but I want more.
1) a duration of 0 should mean "don't play", not "play forever"
2) better than 1s accuracy (I have measured some tunes exactly
from WAV files and want to use those values)
Changed Bug title.

Hmm, currently, from my understanding of the source, the "official"
resolution in the emulation engine is 'one second'. Maybe I'll
find the time to look deeper into it. I'll probably need to discuss
this with the upstream author.

Hi,
Do you still need this feature? As it seems the engine has one second
granuality, you can't make it play fractions of a second. Also, if the
time is zero, you can skip the playing yourself as my opinion -t 0
should remain as playing forever.
