Hi! I am a former mandrake user who got really spoiled with the default colors for emacs in mandrale. It would help debian emacs be better out of the box if these colors were also adobted. The people I have asked agree that the now default black-white theme is very hard on the eyes.
The settings are:
emacs*Background: DarkSlateGray
emacs*Foreground: Wheat
emacs*pointerColor: Orchid
emacs*cursorColor: Orchid
emacs*font: fixed
Where the first two lines and the font are the most important.
Remember - not choosing the default for people is still a choise, so please choose a good one like this one.

Current obstacle is that lincvs needs tmake to build.
tmake is a tool by TrollTech that is non-free unfortunatly
(violates DFSG#1). I've mailed the author and hope he
can resolve the issue.
