Bug#97531; Package less. debian-bugs-dist@lists.debian.orgThomas Schoepf Subject: Bug#97531: search ignores current line Reply-To: Joey Hess , 97531@bugs.debian.org Resent-From: Joey Hess Orignal-Sender: Joey Hess Resent-To: debian-bugs-dist@lists.debian.org Resent-CC: Thomas Schoepf Resent-Date: Tue, 15 May 2001 02:03:59 GMT Resent-Message-ID: Resent-Sender: owner@bugs.debian.org X-Debian-PR-Message: report 97531 X-Debian-PR-Package: less X-Debian-PR-Keywords: X-Loop: owner@bugs.debian.org Received: via spool by submit@bugs.debian.org id=B.98989144814142 (code B ref -1); Tue, 15 May 2001 02:03:59 GMT From: Joey Hess To: Debian Bug Tracking System X-Reportbug-Version: 1.15 X-Mailer: reportbug 1.15 Date: Mon, 14 May 2001 21:52:52 -0400 Message-Id: Sender: Joey Hess Delivered-To: submit@bugs.debian.org Package: less Version: 358-6.1 Severity: minor Searching with '/' ignores the current line. This is, of course, often good -- it lets me search again and move forward in the file. But, it tripped me up just now. I lessed a file, and the thing I was looking for was in the first line of the file. But I didn't know that, and I was assuming it was quite a way down, so I didn't bother to read a thing, just ran a search, and it said "Pattern not found". And I took it at its word (silly me). Only later, after exiting less and eventually running grep did I notice it was in the first line of the file. I think it would be nice if, after searching the rest of the file, less went back and checked to see if the pattern was in the current line, and said something like "Pattern only found in current line (you doofus)". -- System Information Debian Release: testing/unstable Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux silk 2.4.3 #2 Wed Apr 25 18:53:02 EDT 2001 i686 Versions of packages less depends on: ii debianutils 1.15 Miscellaneous utilities specific t ii libc6 2.2.3-1 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libncurses5 5.2.20010318-1 Shared libraries for terminal hand Acknowledgement sent to Joey Hess <joeyh@debian.org>:
