In /var/log/syslog the following related messages appear: kernel: hdc: packet command error: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error } kernel: hdc: packet command error: error=0x54 kernel: ATAPI device hdc: kernel: Error: Illegal request -- (Sense key=0x05) kernel: Logical block address out of range -- (asc=0x21, ascq=0x00) kernel: The failed "Play Audio MSF" packet command was: kernel: "47 00 00 31 3b 1b 3f 1e 15 00 00 00 " (stripped time and hostname) This error happens with every cd I ever tried with.
