Version: 2.4.0.9
Severity: normal
Hello,
dupload(1) says:
The default transfer method is FTP. As alternate method
SCP/SSH is supported. For SCP/SSH the default login is
taken from your local user name. The SCP/SSH method only
works, if no password is required (see ssh(1)). For
security reasons (FTP transmits the password in clear), it
is recommended to use SCP (yes, I know it is non-free.)
Since I installed ssh dupload obviousely uses scp method (which seems
to make sense for me). Unfortunately it ignores the USER variable
which I set in my upload script and which worked with plain ftp.
Actually I don't know how to call scp, but I set up the USER variable
so that a "ssh -l $USER master.debian.org" works without password.
Master does allow only secure method (which makes sense of course)
but is hard to handle after a firewall. That's why I have to use
a host outside which I have very bad connection to so I have problems
to track down the problem in more detail.
By the way the "non-free" part in the quote above is not more correct.
(I will not file this as separate bug severity wishlist, because it
should be no problem to delete this 6 words in the manual together
with the correction above.)
Thanks for maintaining this useful package
Andreas.

I believe there is another solution to the duplaod 'bug' you mention. Change
your own ~/.dupload.conf (dupload itself does not read USER or anything else
to find the local username, everything is set in /etc/dupload.conf) to:
$cfg{master}{"login"} = $ENV{'USER'} || 'andreas';
