Hi... Though documented in the man page the --long-hostname option does not
appear to work. Example: these lines in my /etc/inittab file produce the
same login prompt on the virtual consoles:
1:S12345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty tty1
2:S12345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty --long-hostname tty2
Output on tty1 and tty2 is (indented for clarity):
Debian GNU/Linux 2.2 etain tty1
etain login:
Shouldn't tty2 show:
Debian GNU/Linux 2.2 etain tty1
etain.bhive.dhs.org login:
Thanks for looking into it. Let me know if I can be more help.

Does "hostname" actually show the domain name too?
mingetty --long-hostname gets the hostname from the same source.
Try "hostname etain.bhive.dhs.org" then restart mingetty. Does it then
show the full hostname?
