Such an option could query the display's physical size from the X server, and use that and the resolution to calculate the geometry of the page in pixels. (xdpyinfo displays the necessary information, and the X server's -dpi command-line option can be used to set it.) This would be a nice thing to have to preview documents as close as possible to the final printed output. For example, it would be easier to see if a particular figure is too big if xdvi's window would be the same size as an actual piece of paper. As an example, gv (the frontend to GhostScript) does seem to respect the physical display size by default; the -dpi setting has an effect on the initial window size, and the 1:1 scale looks correct on my monitor with a -dpi setting that I calculated for it. It would be nice if xdvi did something similar. (I suspect that xdvi displays DVI files in such a way that they can only be scaled in rather large discrete steps (at least the "s" command seems to work like that), so this feature may be difficult to implement.) -- -=- Rjs -=- rjs@lloke.dna.fi Acknowledgement sent to rjs@isil.lloke.dna.fi (Riku Saikkonen):
