Hello,
I added a XPM file to a package, and when I try to build it I get
dpkg-source: building povray using existing povray_3.0.10.orig.tar.gz
dpkg-source: building povray in povray_3.0.10-1.diff.gz
dpkg-source: cannot represent change to mini-xpovicon.xpm: binary file contents changed
dpkg-source: building povray in povray_3.0.10-1.dsc
dpkg-source: unrepresentable changes to source
and the build process stops. This is really annoying. Does this mean that
the current package format is not able to represent changes as simple as
adding an image to a package (I know it is binary, but then it should be
handled anyway)? Or is there a solution?

A relatively simple workaround might be to convert the binary to test
(say, uuencode it), and then convert it back during the build.
This would work for any binary file.

Bugs 4641 and 5807 request that dpkg removes pre-existing .tmp-nest
files, rather than erroring out. I disagree, and I think the dpkg
developers would agree. Removing a directory w/o asking would be a
big bug, and a possible security problem.
Bug 4525 is not a bug, so have said Ian and Guy (read the bug log).
Bug 7714 is not a bug, nor would anyone really recommend going from
unified diff format to '-C 2'.
Bug 10405 is not a bug, not a good idea, and a policy issue rather
than a dpkg-dev issue. It asks for pkgs to be able to have ':' in the
names of them, a thoroughly bad idea.
Bug 13961 is a request for source-dependancies; definately an
important wishlist, but a wishlist, not a bug.

Bug 4525 is not a bug, so have said Ian and Guy (read the bug log).
Bug 7714 is not a bug, nor would anyone really recommend going from
unified diff format to '-C 2'.
Bug 10405 is not a bug, not a good idea, and a policy issue rather
than a dpkg-dev issue. It asks for pkgs to be able to have ':' in the
names of them, a thoroughly bad idea.
Bug 13961 is a request for source-dependancies; definately an
important wishlist, but a wishlist, not a bug.

I added a XPM file to a package, and when I try to build it I get
dpkg-source: building povray using existing povray_3.0.10.orig.tar.gz
dpkg-source: building povray in povray_3.0.10-1.diff.gz
dpkg-source: cannot represent change to mini-xpovicon.xpm: binary file contents changed
dpkg-source: building povray in povray_3.0.10-1.dsc
dpkg-source: unrepresentable changes to source
and the build process stops. This is really annoying. Does this mean that
the current package format is not able to represent changes as simple as
adding an image to a package (I know it is binary, but then it should be
handled anyway)? Or is there a solution?

I added a XPM file to a package, and when I try to build it I get
dpkg-source: building povray using existing povray_3.0.10.orig.tar.gz
dpkg-source: building povray in povray_3.0.10-1.diff.gz
dpkg-source: cannot represent change to mini-xpovicon.xpm: binary file contents changed
dpkg-source: building povray in povray_3.0.10-1.dsc
dpkg-source: unrepresentable changes to source
and the build process stops. This is really annoying. Does this mean that
the current package format is not able to represent changes as simple as
adding an image to a package (I know it is binary, but then it should be
handled anyway)? Or is there a solution?

* Changed the logic of simplification of dependencies: if any dependency

* dpkg-shlibdeps properly accounts usage of symbols provided by private
libraries without SONAME. Closes: #469838
* Add a new warning to dpkg-shlibdeps when a library NEEDED is in fact

activate. By default, do not activate the warning about useless

- the format "2.0" is the original wig&pen
- the format "3.0 (quilt)" is based on 2.0. It uses a tarball for the

outside of the debian directory can be also included if they
are listed in debian/source/include-binaries (and option
--include-binaries will generate this file automatically).
