Package: bind
Version: 8.2.3-3
Distribution: testing
Bind currently listens on all interfaces that are up when the daemon
is brought up; ie:
[dilinger@incandescent etc]$ sudo lsof -n|grep LISTEN
named 158 root 21u IPv4 178 TCP 127.0.0.1:domain (LISTEN)
named 158 root 23u IPv4 180 TCP 128.113.199.230:domain (LISTEN)
This would be fine, if bind itself would restart when networking was
restarted (/etc/init.d/networking restart); but currently, it does not.
If I change eth0's ips in /etc/network/interfaces, and restart networking,
bind will continue listening on the old ip (and not the new one), until I
manually restart bind.
Correct behavior (imo) would be to have the bind package stick a script
in netbase's /etc/networking/if-up.d/ directory, which checks if bind
is running, and if it is, restart the (name) daemon.

Wow, this is an old one. :)
This isn't an issue for bind9 (iirc); it's smart enough to listen on new
interfaces when they come up. I forget the details of how it does this
(it came up during the whole should-bind9-run-as-nonroot flamewar(s)); I
believe it checks every minute or so for new interfaces, and listens on
the new interface if it appears. That leaves a possible 60 second lag
between when an interface appears, and when bind9 starts listening on
that interface, but that value is configurable, and shouldn't really be
an problem. I'd say you can close this bug (or wontfix), if everyone
agrees that it's no longer an issue. Of course, it probably still
affects bind8...

The resolvconf package, currently experimental, solves
problems #88326 and #86488 .
Resolvconf hooks into ifupdown, DHCP clients, etc., using
their exported interfaces and (among other things) calls
"/etc/init.d/bind reload" when interfaces go up or down.
Also among the things that resolvconf does, it generates a
file containing an "options { ... }" statement with an
updated "forwarders { ... }" statement listing all available
forwarders.
Resolvconf is currently available at alioth in the "resolvconf"
section of the update-resolv project:
alioth.debian.org/projects/update-resolv
The package is currently experimental.
The current release name is 0.23 .

The bind package has been removed from Debian testing, unstable and
experimental. I am reassigning its bugs to the bind9 package. Please
have a look at them, and close them if they don't apply to
bind9 anymore.
Don't hesitate to reply to this mail if you have any question.
