Here is a sample entry for ifupdown, that worked for me till now:
iface eth0 inet dhcp
up ddclient -ip $(ifconfig eth0 | grep 'inet addr:' | sed 's/^.*addr:\([0-9.]*\).*$/\1/') -retry
You'll also not the sed line I use is a bit different from the one in
examples/local-ip - I tend to like it better (probably more robust)
