Right - ssh2 certainly doesn't set it, at least. I guess I can pass this
across to our default shell to see if there's any possibility that
REMOTEHOST could be implemented there.

Right - ssh2 certainly doesn't set it, at least. I guess I can pass this
across to our default shell to see if there's any possibility that
REMOTEHOST could be implemented there.

The bug submitter requested to set REMOTEHOST in shells started on a
remote host (like tcsh does). bash has the same behaviour as zsh and
pdksh, they all don't set REMOTEHOST. Currently you could look at
SSH_CLIENT to extract the hostname, but the current openssh sources
document SSH_CLIENT as deprecated.
I propose to close the bug report as wontfix. bash matches the
behaviour of other POSIX compliant shells. Any counter arguments?
