Because nothing seems to have happened since years, and the problem is still present. It appears to be similar to http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=30486 -- in most cases, DPMS does work automaticaly (configured with xset on the Xserver). Or I can use -dpmsstandby, -dpmssuspend, -dpmsoff. However, as soon as "-mode blank" is used, the game is over. I need to specify -enablesaver, then it works with all animation modules including blank. IMO xlock somehow blocks the DPMS functionality of the X server (but, again, only with blank and not with the other modules). I get lots of (**) RADEON(0): RADEONSaveScreen(2) (**) RADEON(0): RADEONSaveScreen(2) messages in my Xorg.0.log when that happens, and the monitor is not turned off.
