XPerhaps this should be a bug report against info-3.7-1 instead.
XIf so, please reassign it.
X
XAfter a fairly clean debian 1.1 install, I find that the dpkg
XGuidleines info files seem to be not working. I have the files
Xguidelines.info.gz, guidelines.info-1.gz, guidelines.info-2.gz
Xin /usr/info, and an entry for "* Guidelines (guidelines)" in
X/usr/info/dir. "info guidelines" produces an info screen which
Xsays:
X
X File: *manpages*, Node: guidelines, Up: (dir)
X
X no manual entry for guidelines
X
X"info guidelines.info" produces similar results.
X
XSelecting the Guidelines entry from the info menu screen produces
Xthe message: "The reference disappeared! (Guidelines)"

X
XGreat. I think the problem occurred using whatever version of
Xdpkg was on the debian 1.1 install floppy set which I downloaded
Xlast Friday.
X
XAm I correct in thinking that all debian users who have installed
Xfrom this debian 1.1 install floppy set now have problems in their
X/usr/info/dir files? If so, is this being addressed? If not, should
Xit be addressed?

X
XYes. Boot floppies with either dpkg-1.1.6 or base-1.1.0-7 (possibly
Xearlier) have the fix. I don't know of an easy way to check the
Xversions of packages on the base diskettes short of making them. A
Xlist of the contents of the boot floppies should be added to the
XFLOPPIES.readme file.
X
X> If so, is this being addressed?
X
XI posted a script in debian-user which fixes the info file. The
Xproblem is not as simple as moving the '* Menu ...' line up,
Xunfortunately. All the sections in the info file were of size one, as
Xinstall-info thought the file was empty each time.
X
XThe script is in the March archive, with subject 'Re: problem with
Xinfo'. Several people have used it succesfully.

XPerhaps the dpkg postinst would be a good place for such a script
X(install-info is in dpkg.deb). The info file could be audited on
Xdpkg upgrade, and repaired at that time if needful.

I suspect this Debian 1.1 bug has been fixed; or at least I've never heard
of it. :) In any case, it's quite obsolete now, so the bug should be
closed...
