Package: smail

Package: base-passwd
Version: 1.2.0-3
[sorry if this is already reported, I'm not online so I can't check, and
I don't see nothing on the last "unanswered problems report"]
installing manually smartlist on a old 1.1 system I've got this problem:
$ sudo dpkg -i /debian/rex/binary-i386/base/base-passwd_1.2.0-3.deb \
/debian/rex-fixed/binary-i386/mail/smartlist_3.10-8.deb
Selecting previously deselected package base-passwd.
(Reading database ... 17830 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking base-passwd (from .../base/base-passwd_1.2.0-3.deb) ...
Replacing files in old package base ...
Preparing to replace smartlist 3.10-8 (using
.../mail/smartlist_3.10-8.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement smartlist ...

What would you like to do about it ? Your options are:
Y or I : install the package maintainer's version
N or O : keep your currently-installed version
Z : background this process to examine the situation
The default action is to keep your current version.

SmartList Installation

Do you want a mailing list "announce" to be created ? (Y/n) n
/var/lib/dpkg/info/smartlist.postinst: newaliases: command not found

chown: root.list: invalid group

newaliases is in sendmail and I have smail 3.2-1
a) smartlist should depend on sendmail (aarghh)
b) smartlist.postinst should test for the command
c) smail should provide a command named newaliases
also the chown failed because I didn't let base-passwd overwrite my
/etc/passwd and /etc/group (who would?)
a) base-passwd package should use standard utility (adduser? useradd?)
to update the list of predefined users/groups.
b) smartlist.postinst should look for the user/group in /etc files
another one (little):
$ grep list /etc/passwd*
/etc/passwd.dpkg-dist:list:*:38:38:smarlist:/var:/bin/sh
>>-------------------------------------t----------------
missing "t" in smar(t)list in gcos field.
Cheers,
Fabrizio
