In the Unix world though, we deal a lot more with text files. MIME was specifically designed so that if you have a multi-part message that consists of multiple text messages it will still be readable. The folks that wrote the MIME standard understood that not everyone does everything in their mail-reader, that slinging MIME tools around can get cumbersome, and not everyone even has a MIME reader. So, Pine shouldn't encode part2+ in a multipart message if it's readable text.
