I just installed nn onto a system running INN and have no problems (it
also works on another system that reads news remotely):
root@netnews:/home/cjf# dpkg -i /debian/rex/binary/news/nn_6.5.0.b3.linux.1.1-01.deb 
Selecting previously deselected package nn.
(Reading database ... 14218 files and directories currently
installed.)
Unpacking nn (from .../nn_6.5.0.b3.linux.1.1-01.deb) ...
