New bug report received and forwarded.

Your message didn't have a Package: line at the start (in the pseudo-header following the real mail header), or didn't have a psuedo-header at all.

This makes it much harder for us to categorise and deal with your problem report; please ensure that you say which package(s) and version(s) the problem is with next time. Some time in the future the problem reports system may start rejecting such messages.

I would suggest that you try the 2.1.17 kernel. I had some trouble with 2.0.27 on my laptop, and upgrading fixed it. Note that this upgrade can be a little tricky if you're using pcmcia. You'll have to recompile the kernel, and the pcmcia-source. -- Rob Bug assigned to package `kernel-image-2.0.27'. The problem has not recurred since. The problem seemed to be both intermittent and temperature-related. Recently I had been running Rocke Verser's DES Challenge code on this machine. This seems to have been a hardware problem. Last week I exchanged my
HP5500CT, first for a loaner machine and then for a brand new one,
keeping the old hard drive each time. The problem has not recurred
since.

The problem seemed to be both intermittent and temperature-related.
Recently I had been running Rocke Verser's DES Challenge code on this
machine. This may have overstressed it thermally. Like most laptops,
this one has no fan to keep it cool, and like all CMOS CPUs the P133
draws more power when running than when halted.
